Coronavirus Pandemic Update from The Citizens State Bank


**UPDATE** 5/21/2020

Beginning Thursday May 21, The Citizens State Bank will be back to normal lobby hours.  We are still advising and requesting that any business that can be done through a non face to face service be done that way.  All banking operations are functional.  We have markings in the lobby to help our customers observe the 6 feet social distancing advice received from State and Federal Government.  

**UPDATE** 3/20/2020

Beginning Monday March 23, The Citizens State Bank will operate by appointment only in the lobby.  The Drive-thru teller window will still be open regular hours.  All other banking operations will still be operational.  Online banking, mobile banking, telephone banking and the ATM will still be available.  Please call the bank 316-542-3142 with questions and concerns or to set up an appointment if you need to speak with a loan officer.  Thank you for your understanding while we all navigate these times.  



There are many concerns about the Coronavirus, COVID-19, the Citizens State Bank is closely monitoring the latest reports from the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) and government leadership. Our concern is the health and safety of our customers, employees and their families. As the Corona Virus continues to dominate the news, we want to let you know what we are doing to provide uninterrupted financial support for you, your family and your business.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has released an article with tips for parents to keep their children safe online.

Clever Gmail Phishing You Need To Know About 

"There is a new scam where hackers send you a text that asks you about a password reset on your gmail account, and if you did not, text STOP. THIS IS A SCAM. The bad guys asked for that password reset and now want you to send them the authorization code! Don't fall for it.

Remember that Gmail or any other web email service will never ask if you "don't" want to do something with your account. You didn't ask for a password reset, so you shouldn't be asked about one.

DO NOT REPLY to the text (doing so will tell the scammers that they have reached a valid number). And to prevent losing your account to bad guys, it's a very good idea to have 2-step verification setup on your Google account." (Cyberheist News Vol 8 #15 / April 10, 2018)

Is the criminal attempt to steal your personal information through fraudulent emails or smart-phone texts. They are often very believable, luring the victim to a site that asks them toprovide (or "verify") personal financial details such as account numbers and social security numbers. A variation is called Spear Phishing, which are elctronic messages that appear to come especially to victime from their employer, usually a large corporation.


Protect Yourself - Your financial institution will not send emails asking for your personal information - they already have it.


Smart Phone Texting

Cyber-security experts often call the text and mobile phone version of phishing Smishing, playing off the SMS, or Short Message Service, teminology used in text messaging. Smart phone users are being increasingly targeted because these users almost always have their phone handy and tend to respond to tects and email quickly. They may not realize the massage is fake until too late. In addition, fake Web sites can be harder to spot on a small screen.

Protect Yourself - Be careful responding to "urgent" text messages, especiallyon from your financial and ask before responding. In all cases with text scams, use the same precautions as you would for a potential phishing scam. 



Fake Check Scams

They use technology to create realistic cashiers checks. These checks are used by scammers to pay for online purchases or most notoriously, some form of foreign lottery that you are told you won. The scam always involves your accepting the faked cashiers check, which is for more than the purchase price, then your sending the difference in a separate check to the scammer. You keep the worthless fake check...and the scammer keeps your real check (with your real money).

Protect Yourself - If you are selling something, insist the buyer pay by traditional means. Remember that if you didn't enter a lottery, you would not win it. And of course, never accept a check for more than the amount due.


Debit & Credit Card Skimming

They attempt to hijack your personal information and your identity by tampering with ATM machines. Fraudsters set up a device that is capable of capturing the debit card magnetic stripe and keypad information from the ATM, then sell this information to criminals who use it to create new cards

Protect Yourself - First by reducing your risk at ATMs - use machines from institutions you know and trust. Additionally, if you notice a change at an ATM you use routinely, such as a color difference in the card reader or a gap where something appears to be glued onto the slot where you insert your card, that's a warning sign to find another machine.
